This love-song is well known in various versions among Gaels throughout the Province. It portrays a young girl whose sweetheart is far away but will one day return. She praises his good looks, generosity with his drinking companions and for being exceptional in every way.
Séisd:
Air a' ghille tha mo rùn
Tha mo rùn air a' ghille
Bho là chur thu rium do chùl
Tha mi `n dùil ri thu thilleadh.
`S ann am Muile nam beann dubha,
Tha mo luaidh air a' ghille;
`S dh'aithnichinn thu `measg an t-sluaigh,
Leis na h-uaislean a' tighinn.
`S ann am Muile nam beann àrd,
Tha mo gràdh air a' ghille;
`S ged nach d'thug thu dhomh do làmh,
Do dheoch-slàinte cha tillinn.
`S bidh mo mhàthair rium ag ràdhainn,
"Éirigh suas `s tog do mhisneach;
Ged tha `n gille fada bhuat,
Cha bhi gruaim air nuair a thig e."
`S nuair a bhiodh tu `s an taigh-òsd'
`S tu nach sòradh an gini;
Bhiodh do bhotail air a' bhòrd,
Càch `gan òl, `s tu `gan sireadh.
Théid mi sìos, théid mi suas,
Bheir mi cuairt feadh a' ghlinnidh
Chìthinn òigfhear `s e gun ghruaim
Le fhalt dualach m'a léineadh.

A well-known love song.
Chaidh Dòmhnall Iain mac Iain a bhreith ann an Ceann a' Mhira. Math gu obair, reiceadh e pit props, dheanadh e obair nan rathaidean is bhiodh e ri tuathanas. `Na dhuine socair, ciùin, dh' fhuirich e fhéin is a bhràthar, Aonghas, còmhla far am biodh fàilte ro `n a h-uile duine. Bha iad gu math measail air cuideachd tighinn astaigh. Thigeadh muinntir an àite cruinn ag éirigh air na h-òrain. `S ann mar sin a thog Dòmhnall na gabhadh e. Bha e gàbhaidh uile math gu seinn. Bha cuid dhe na h-òrain aige cho fada `s gun cuireadh e ionghantas air càch ciamar a chumadh e cuimhne air na faclan uileadh.

Donald John MacArthur was born and raised in Upper Grand Mira. A hard worker, he sold pit props, worked on the roads, and farmed. A quiet and gentle man, he lived with his brother where they welcomed company and loved to visit. Friends and neighbours would often come together to sing and this way, he learned his songs. He was wonderful to sing, and many times had songs so lengthy, listeners marvelled at his ability to remember all the verses.
